aquatic invasive species education
The spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) threatens the Minnesota environment, recreational activities, and economy. This is a problem of which Minnesotans need to be aware, but it is also some which students can directly help mitigate. In this 3-day curriculum, students will learn what an invasive species is, how to identify them, why they are such a concern, and what they personally can do to help stop the spread. Our curriculum is aligned with Minnesota Academic Standards for 7th grade Life Sciences. Standard: 7L.2.1.1.1
Day one of the program is a slide presentation delivered by a naturalist about aquatic invasive species. Day two is a research day for the students to research an aquatic invasive species. They will be answering questions on a worksheet and designing a small poster. On day three, the students present briefly about their species to the class.
