Prairie Steak Fry
Prairie Ecology Bus Center's Fourth Annual Steak Fry was held on Monday, August 1, at the Heron Lake Community Center. A full steak dinner, grilled by the Jackson/Cottonwood Cattlemen’s Association, with dessert by the Jackson County Dairy Association, was enjoyed by a hungry crowd. The program Master of Ceremonies was Brent Pavelko. Following dinner, Wayne Reckard, Project Coordinator from Kubala Washatko Architects Inc. of Milwaukee, WI, gave a presentation on the PEBC's future building plans. Main speaker was author, illustrator, musician, composer, naturalist and wilderness guide Douglas Wood. The Lakefield Girl Scouts helped serve the meal. Music was provided by local disc jockey Tom Van Weston. Flower arrangements were provided by Village Green Florist & Greenhouse. The event was sponsored by Extended Ag Services, Inc., Extended Ag Insurance Services, Inc., FCA CO-OP, enXco, Kozy Heat and Pioneer. The drawing for this year's raffle prize, a Dixon Hydrostatic Lawn Tractor, will be held on August 24 at The Shed in Lakefield.
