Bug-ology/Flying Flowers/A Worm's World
PEBC Naturalist Alisha Flemming traveled to Blue Earth on June 15, 16 and 21 to present three programs to Blue Earth CE classes. Her first program was Bug-ology. All sorts of critters live outside. Some are creepy and crawly. Some fly and buzz by your ears. Some may land on your arm and tickle you! Of these critters, some of the tiniest are simply the coolest! We’re not talking about aliens but about bugs! The second program was entitled Flying Flowers where the group took a look at one of nature’s most colorful insects, the butterfly. Butterflies are not only beautiful to look at, but they’re also very helpful. They help plants to grow food that we depend on to eat. Butterflies have an amazing life cycle and we watched how different they look during each stage. They were able to look at real butterflies, eat like a butterfly, move like a butterfly and even make butterfly art to take home. The final program she presented was A Worm's World. Many animals call the soil their home. Tunnels – even whole “cities” – are the creation of creatures who like the dark of the underground where it’s cool, moist and perfect for how they live! Of these animals, the worms are one of the coolest kinds! The class explored different types of worms and learned about how they live, how they make the soil better, are helpful in our gardens, and more. |
