Lake Ecology & Nature InterpretationThrough Art
Fifth graders from Butterfield-Odin Elementary School in Butterfield were out with the Prairie Ecology Bus on April 11 to learn about Lake Ecology at Voss Park and Butterfield Lake. Naturalists Alisha Flemming and Clay Steele helped the students determine how landscape, land use and wildlife shape these important ecosystems. It is said that there is an art to science. Likewise, there is a science to art! Blending art and science is a natural combination. The students had the opportunity to ply their artistic creativity using "tools" that Mother Nature provides! A scavenger hunt through Voss Park uncovered a multitude of textures and shapes in natural objects that became the tools of their ensuing art projects.
