Macros
Fifth Grade Students from Worthington and Adrian boarded the Prairie Ecology Bus to study "macros" during Prairie Wetland Learning Days on September 28, 29 & 30. They took a close-up look at a group of animals who can tell us a lot about our water's health. Tiny organisms, called macroinvertebrates, who spend part or all of their life in water, have varying tolerances for water that is less than perfect. The students sampled a local water body to collect "macros", learned to identify and categorize them based on their tolerance levels. They left the program with a better understanding of how we determine water health and how other animals, besides humans, depend upon healthy water ecosystem.
