Water Quality and Soils
The Prairie Ecology Bus transported Comfrey School students to Mound Creek County Park on October 6 to study Water Quality and Soils. The students became aquatic scientists for a day! They learned about what “water quality” means and how to measure it with chemical and physical tests. They drew samples and tested these samples. Does water quality really affect us? Do we affect water health? Using scientific equipment and testing, the students learned how soils are formed, what components make up our soils and how soils and climate affect what can grow in our region. Students became aware that the brown stuff beneath our feet deserves a more important title than “dirt!” Our rich “soils” are the foundation of our region’s economy and most worthy of our attention and appreciation! |
