Prairie Ecology and Whales
Hoover Elementary-North Mankato students were out with the New Ecology Bus on the Kasota Prairie for two days in October studying an environment that has shaped this region and is the foundation of our rich agricultural heritage. By studying the plants and wildlife of a prairie, their adaptations for living here, and how they help form our soils, the students learned a new appreciation for the remarkable places that prairies are and how important they are for both humans and wildlife. One day was spent with kindergarten students studying "animals homes". Topic of day three was Whales - some of the largest creatures to have ever inhabited the earth. Hoover students joined the PEBC staff on an ocean odyssey, learning about these remarkable animals and their watery home. |
