Time for the show!
The 6th Annual 2008 Prairie Winds Kite Fly was the biggest yet! Over 550 people registered at the front gate and enjoyed the beautiful weather with the wind being just about right.

bol racing Running with the bols
An added activity to the kite fly was the bol race. Friends and family challenged each other to test their speed and endurance while pulling these parachutes or bols.
  A shared moment...
A major goal of the Prairie Winds Kite Fly is to get families together and enjoy the outdoors. A large number of families attending let us know our mission was accomplished!

kite eating tree A real man-eater
A Prairie Ecology Bus Center board member received a close up view of one of the large show kites that filled the sky. Don't worry - no humans were injured in the taking of this picture.
  Nothing like homemade
A very popular activity this year was to make your own kite. These do-it-yourselfers were artists as well, decorating their kites to add art to the sky.

  glider Wind and a prayer
Balsa wood gliders made an appearance for two glider contests held during the kite fly. The right tail wind and a good pilot helped in getting a little more distance. The best distance? Fifty-four feet and seven inches.
  Going up?
Kids weren't the only ones trying their hand at kite flying. A number of adults brought out their special "toys" to place into the sky.
  fish Time for wind
A number of wind banners were placed around the airport, including these flags. These weren't the only flyers, however, as a bevy of other beauties floated in the wind just across the runway.
  Squish!
Not all of the kites were made for the sky. This ground bouncer provided some entertainment as it rolled back and forth over kids and adults.

seniors You're never too old for kites
Young and old alike enjoyed the Prairie Winds Kite Fly. These aquatic kites flew overhead as you entered the airport.

Kite Doctor

No, it's not a new show on TV this fall. We had our own kite doctor on hand at the kite fly to help any "patients" that needed repairs. A little TLC and some tape was just what the doctor ordered.
